Another AB1 user! And, yes, I have a spare. And two AB7s which is very similar to the AB1 but: slightly larger; has a toggle on/off switch; the pattern of alarm beeps is different.

Beware the AB1s offered for around £18 on amazon in the UK. It may say Braun on the dial, but aside from the colour and the font on the dial, there's no comparison. They are not made by Braun; they are smaller; the materials are cheaper; the on/off button is smaller, and lacks the green indicator line; the alarm and time setting buttons are stiff; worst of all, the near-silent Braun movement has been replaced by a cheap and LOUD alternative.

No, the originals are not cheap. But if you look around, they are still out there and for a beautifully made, wonderfully functional design classic that (with care) may last you for decades £30 is a bargain.

My alarm clock has duct tape and cardboard on the back since I lost the battery cover somewhere in Asia. So what if time occasionally stops when the battery comes loose? It might not be the prettiest alarm clock, but it works for me.

Plus, I can't read analog clocks in the early hours of the morning. Glowing numbers help.
